The age and uncommon layout of the home meant there were various challenges throughout, many of which begged the question of whether a ‘knockdown-rebuild’ would have been easier. However, we often find the projects which offer greater challenges in turn offer greater reward, and this was certainly the case with Wyuna. Through the preservation of the building, we were able to maintain some of the history associated with the house and the area. This was something our clients felt very passionate about and we applaud them for their vision.
One thing that set this project apart from others was the client. She is a talented interior architect whose skills shone throughout this renovation. Her knowledge of construction detailing, as well as of the house itself and its function, meant a modern and ‘new’ feeling was achieved within the confines of the original layout. We commend the both functional and beautiful spaces she designed, as they laid foundation for the exceptional result we achieved.
Well designed, thermally efficient homes are our bread and butter. The original construction of this house, however, meant that it was not conducive to thermal performance. To mitigate this and create a warm, light filled home, we included Miglas thermally broken windows and hydronic floor heating throughout as key construction features. These inclusions allowed for the creation of ambient warmth, and a feeling of openness achieved through the flooding of natural light. Although functional in nature, these additions also furthered the design vision of the home.
This project is memorable for us, and we hope it is home to enjoyment and amazing memories for years to come.
